My Approach
My clients are often at a moment of transition.
This can be due to a recent inheritance, a liquidity event, a shift in generational leadership, or simply a growing desire to give with more clarity and purpose. You may be entirely new to giving or have been making donations for years and are looking to deepen your impact or bring better alignment to your approach. In all cases, I support you as you define your goals, build consensus across stakeholders, and make thoughtful, values-driven giving decisions.
Many are stepping into philanthropy as a new or more significant part of their time and identity.
This is may be especially true for those in the rising generation of a family. In these cases, my role can expand to serve as a coach and accountability ally—someone who helps you stay focused on the goals and priorities you’ve set for yourself. I help you build knowledge and confidence, whether that’s an understanding of core concepts in philanthropy and the non-profit sector or navigating the responsibilities of as a foundation leader or board member.
Whatever your entry point, I understand that while this work can seem technical, it is actually deeply personal.
Defining your approach to giving is about much more than simply developing funding criteria, sourcing potential grantees, and conducting due diligence. It should feel purposeful and joyful. This will happen when you feel confident that you are supporting the people, causes, and communities that matter most to you.
Our work together will help you determine how to engage with your giving so that it feels meaningful and fits in with your already busy life.
There really is no one “right way” to do philanthropy. For some people it means serving as a foundation’s executive director and making philanthropy a full-time focus. Others prefer to set strategy and rely on an advisor or staff for research and grant selection. Still others go deep with a few organizations—serving on boards or acting as a trusted advisor to nonprofit leaders—while keeping their broader giving streamlined.
